Text a Nearby Group of Friends With GroupMe’s New Foursquare Feature

Group texting app GroupMe launched Friday a new function that allows end users to produce teams that consist of Foursquare buddies close by.

“Imagine it with us: you are at a concert and recognize on Foursquare that a bunch of your buddies are there, too,” reads a publish on the startup’s website. “But you do not know wherever they are or how to get everyone with each other. You open up groupme.com/foursquare on your telephone, test off all their names, and you’re instantly dropped into a GroupMe. With one particular text, everybody can prepare in which to go subsequent.”

The new feature only covers your Foursquare close friends, so if you’re searching to include a pal who isn’t on Foursquare or get in touch with a cute stranger at that concert, you’re still out of luck. The app highlights the pals that are checked in near exactly where you are checked in so that they’re straightforward to add to a group, but it also makes it possible for you to add any of your Foursquare pals.

GroupMe will be presenting the new characteristic at a Foursquare Hack Day in New York Saturday. The developer who developed the characteristic, Pat Nakajima, named it John Mayer (“It’s a Foursquare API wrapper, intended to ‘just perform,’ just like all of John Mayer’s hooks and sweet guitar licks,” he explains). He is open sourcing a good deal of the code.
